Asriel

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Manasseh · H0844H
Old Testament

Asriel was a son of Gilead and a descendant of Manasseh (1Ch.7.14).

Asriel was a son of Manasseh (through either his Aramean concubine or his son Gilead, depending on the textual tradition) and the ancestor of the Asrielite clan within the tribe of Manasseh (Numbers 26:31; Joshua 17:2; 1 Chronicles 7:14). His descendants received a territorial allotment in Canaan during the division of the land under Joshua. The Asrielites are listed as one of the male heirs of Manasseh who qualified for inheritance, in contrast to the daughters of Zelophehad who famously petitioned for their own share (Numbers 27:1–11). Asriel is known only from these genealogical and administrative lists.
