Bedad

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Edom · H0911
Old Testament

Bedad was the father of Hadad, one of the kings of Edom before Israel had a king.

Bedad was the father of Hadad (or Hadar), one of the early kings of Edom listed in the table of Edomite rulers who reigned before Israel had a king (Genesis 36:35; 1 Chronicles 1:46). Hadad's reign over Edom was marked by his defeat of Midian in the country of Moab, an event that may reflect early tribal conflicts in the Transjordanian region. Bedad's name is preserved solely as the father of this Edomite king.
