Cushi was the great grandfather of Jehudi, who was sent to fetch Baruch to read Jeremiah's scroll.

Cushi was the great-grandfather of Jehudi, a royal official sent by the princes of King Jehoiakim to summon Baruch to read Jeremiah's scroll to them (Jeremiah 36:14). The unusually long genealogy—Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi—may reflect Jehudi's non-Israelite ancestry, as 'Cushi' can mean 'Ethiopian' in Hebrew. If so, Jehudi's family represents the integration of foreign-born individuals or their descendants into the royal administration of Judah.
