Old Testament

Gahar was an ancestor of a group of temple servants (Nethinim) who returned to Jerusalem from the Babylonian exile.

Gahar was the head of a family of temple servants (Nethinim) who returned with Zerubbabel from Babylonian exile, listed in Ezra 2:47 and Nehemiah 7:49. The Nethinim were a class of dedicated temple workers assigned to assist the Levites in the service of the sanctuary. Gahar's family's return was part of the first great wave of repatriation under Zerubbabel and Jeshua that began the restoration of worship in Jerusalem.
