Hammedatha

Old Testament

Hammedatha was the father of Haman, the Persian official who plotted to destroy the Jews in the book of Esther.

Hammedatha was the father of Haman the Agagite, the notorious villain of the book of Esther (Esther 3:1, 10; 8:5; 9:10, 24). His name is Persian or possibly Elamite in origin, consistent with Haman's position as a high official in the Achaemenid Persian court. Hammedatha is mentioned only in the formulaic identification of his son; he plays no independent role in the narrative but is repeatedly cited to emphasize Haman's pedigree as an Agagite adversary of the Jewish people.
