Hobab

Exodus & Wilderness Midian · H2246
Old Testament

Hobab, the son of Jethro (or 'Reuel') the Midianite and Moses' brother-in-law, was invited by Moses to join the Israelites on their journey to the Promised Land.

Hobab was the son of Reuel (Jethro) the Midianite and the brother-in-law of Moses, who invited him to join Israel's journey to the Promised Land and serve as a guide through the wilderness (Numbers 10:29–32). Moses appealed to Hobab's knowledge of the desert terrain, promising that he would share in Israel's inheritance. Judges 1:16 and 4:11 suggest that the Kenite descendants of Hobab did indeed settle among the Israelites. His story illuminates the relationship between Israel and the Midianite/Kenite peoples in the early period of national formation.
