Lael

Exodus & Wilderness > · H3815
Old Testament

Lael, the father of Eliasaph, a leader of the Gershonite Levites.

Lael was a Gershonite Levite and the father of Eliasaph, who served as the leader of the Gershonite clan during the wilderness journey (Numbers 3:24). Eliasaph's responsibilities included overseeing the transport of the tabernacle's curtains, coverings, and screens. Lael's name, meaning 'belonging to God,' is fitting for a man whose son held a senior Levitical office in the service of the tabernacle. He appears only in this genealogical designation.
