Old Testament

Machir, the son of Ammiel, hosted Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, in Lo-debar and later provided supplies to David during Absalom's rebellion.

Machir son of Ammiel was the man from Lo-debar who had been providing refuge to Mephibosheth, Jonathan's crippled son, before David summoned him to the court (2 Samuel 9:4–5). Later in Absalom's rebellion, this same Machir brought provisions to David at Mahanaim, demonstrating continued loyalty to the Davidic house (2 Samuel 17:27–29). His provision of both shelter and supplies at critical moments of Davidic vulnerability marks him as a man of remarkable fidelity. He should be distinguished from the earlier Machir son of Manasseh in Numbers 32:39–40.
