Mahol

Mahol was the father of four renowned sages—Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol, and Darda—whose wisdom was surpassed by Solomon (1 Kings 4:31). These 'sons of Mahol' were apparently celebrated for their proverbial wisdom, and their names appear in the superscriptions of Psalms 88 and 89 (Heman the Ezrahite and Ethan the Ezrahite). Their designation as sons of Mahol may indicate membership in a guild of musicians or wisdom teachers, since mahol is related to the Hebrew word for 'dance' or 'choir.'
