Malchijah was the head of the fifth priestly division during David's reign.

Malchijah was the head of the fifth priestly division established by King David for the orderly rotation of temple service (1 Chronicles 24:9). The twenty-four courses each served approximately two weeks per year, ensuring continuous priestly ministry. A Malchijah son of Harim also appears among those who had married foreign women (Ezra 10:31) and among the wall-builders of Nehemiah's time (Nehemiah 3:11, 14), suggesting the name was common in the post-exilic priestly community.
