Neriah

Divided Kingdom > · H5374
Old Testament

Neriah was the father of Baruch, Jeremiah's scribe.

Neriah was the son of Mahseiah and the father of Baruch, Jeremiah's faithful scribe, and of Seraiah, who carried Jeremiah's scroll of judgment against Babylon to that city (Jeremiah 32:12; 36:4, 32; 43:3; 45:1; 51:59). Both of Neriah's sons served the prophet during the most difficult period of his ministry—the Babylonian siege and destruction of Jerusalem. The family's loyalty to Jeremiah at great personal risk reflects the tight circle of supporters who preserved the prophet's writings for posterity.
