Action de Grâces

Expressing gratitude to God for his character, provision, and mighty acts. The psalms overflow with thanksgiving: 'Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever' (Psalm 107:1). Paul instructed believers to 'give thanks in all circumstances' (1 Thessalonians 5:18) and to let their requests be known 'with thanksgiving' (Philippians 4:6). Colossians 3:17 urges doing everything 'in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.' The Levitical thank offering (todah, Leviticus 7:12-15) expressed gratitude through sacrifice. Thanksgiving combats anxiety, cultivates contentment, and honors God's faithfulness.
