Old Testament

Abdeel was the father of Shelemiah, an official sent by King Jehoiakim to arrest Baruch and Jeremiah.

Abdeel was the father of Shelemiah, an official dispatched by King Jehoiakim to arrest the prophet Jeremiah and his scribe Baruch after the king burned the scroll of Jeremiah's prophecies (Jeremiah 36:26). His son Shelemiah was one of three officials sent on this mission, but the LORD hid Jeremiah and Baruch so they could not be found. Abdeel is mentioned only in this single verse and is known solely through his son's role in the events surrounding Jeremiah's prophetic ministry.
