Hebron

Hebron was a son of Kohath and grandson of Levi, listed in Exodus 6:18 and 1 Chronicles 6:2 as one of the founders of the major Levitical family divisions. His descendants, the Hebronites, are mentioned in the wilderness census (Numbers 3:27) and were assigned important duties in transporting the sacred objects of the tabernacle. In 1 Chronicles 23:12–19 the Hebronites are listed among the Levitical families enrolled by David for temple service, and some were appointed as officials and judges in the Transjordanian territories (1 Chronicles 26:30–32).
