Horam

Old Testament

Horam, the king of Gezer, came to help Lachish but was defeated by Joshua and the Israelites.

Horam was the king of Gezer who brought his army to the aid of Lachish during Joshua's southern campaign against the Canaanite city-states (Joshua 10:33). Joshua defeated him, killing Horam and all his men, though the text records that Gezer itself was not captured at this time. The city of Gezer would remain in Canaanite hands until the Egyptian pharaoh captured it and gave it as a dowry to Solomon's Egyptian wife (1 Kings 9:16). Horam's defeat nonetheless demonstrates the military momentum of the Israelite conquest under Joshua's leadership.
