Mahalalel was a descendant of Seth and an ancestor of Noah, living before the flood.
Mahalalel was the son of Kenan and a fifth-generation descendant of Adam through the Sethite line (Genesis 5:12–17; 1 Chronicles 1:2). He lived 895 years and fathered Jared at age 65. His name means 'praise of God' or 'the mighty one of God is praised,' making it one of the most explicitly theophoric names in the antediluvian genealogy. He is included in Luke's genealogy of Jesus (Luke 3:37) as an ancestor in the line from Adam to Noah.
