Mehetabel

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Edom · H4105G
Old Testament

Mehetabel was the wife of Hadar, a king of Edom.

Mehetabel daughter of Matred was the wife of Hadar (or Hadad), the last named king in the pre-Israelite Edomite king list (Genesis 36:39; 1 Chronicles 1:50). Her double matrilineal genealogy—daughter of Matred, granddaughter of Mezahab—is unusual in the Edomite royal records and may reflect her distinguished ancestry or a matriarchal tradition within Edomite royalty. Her name means 'God does good' and she is known only from these genealogical notices.
