Old Testament

Obed-edom was a Gittite in whose house the Ark of the Covenant stayed for three months, bringing blessings to his household.

Obed-edom the Gittite welcomed the ark of the covenant into his house for three months after Uzzah's death alarmed David, and the LORD blessed his entire household during that time (2 Samuel 6:10–12; 1 Chronicles 13:13–14). Identified as a Levite of the Merarite clan and son of Jeduthun, he was subsequently appointed as a tabernacle musician and gatekeeper by David (1 Chronicles 15:18, 21, 24; 26:4–8). His eight sons—Shemaiah, Jehozabad, Joah, Sachar, Nethanel, Ammiel, Issachar, and Peullethai—were described as sixty-two men of ability who ruled their father's house, a mark of exceptional divine blessing (1 Chronicles 26:8).
