Fields
Open agricultural land rich with spiritual metaphor in Scripture. Ruth gleaned in Boaz's fields (Ruth 2:2-3). Jesus told the parable of the wheat and tares in a field representing the world (Matthew 13:24-30, 38). He declared, 'Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest' (John 4:35). The field where treasure is hidden represents the kingdom (Matthew 13:44). Jeremiah purchased a field in besieged Jerusalem as an act of faith in future restoration (Jeremiah 32:6-15). Leviticus 19:9 mandated leaving field edges for the poor. The field represents both the world as a mission field and the daily labor through which God provides and teaches spiritual lessons.
