Zechariah 5:4
I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Study Note
The vision of the flying scroll (Zechariah 5:1-4) in which the divine curse 'shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name; and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof' presents divine judgment as an inescapable, penetrating force. The scroll's enormous dimensions (20 by 10 cubits, matching the porch of Solomon's temple, 1 Kings 6:3) connect the judgment to the covenant administered in the sanctuary — the same standards by which Israel was constituted as God's people now pursue covenant violation into the domestic sphere. The specificity of the two sins (theft and false oath) may reflect the Decalogue's eighth and third commandments, suggesting the scroll embodies covenant law itself as the agent of judgment. Hebrews 4:12's 'the word of God is quick, and powerful... and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart' inhabits the same tradition of the divine word as penetrating, inescapable, and judicially decisive.
