Daniel 4:25
That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

The divine sentence upon Nebuchadnezzar — 'that they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field... till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will' — applies the most radical of all divine judgments to the world's most powerful ruler: the loss of rational human identity itself. The medical condition described (living as a beast, eating grass, nails like bird's claws) has been identified by some scholars with the condition known as boanthropy or clinical lycanthropy, though the text presents it as directly supernatural. The theological purpose is explicit and repeated (4:25, 32): the Most High's sovereignty over human political power must be acknowledged before normal human existence resumes. The passage became central in Christian reflection on political theology and the limits of human imperial pretension.
