Study Note

Micah 4:1-3 is nearly identical to Isaiah 2:2-4, representing either a common prophetic source or mutual citation — one of the most discussed cases of intertextuality in the Hebrew prophets. The vision of all nations flowing to 'the mountain of the house of the Lord' to learn God's ways and have their disputes arbitrated by divine judgment presents Torah-instruction (verse 2: 'he will teach us of his ways') as the eschatological source of universal shalom. The swords-into-ploughshares and spears-into-pruninghooks transformation (verse 3) is the most famous OT image for the cessation of warfare in the messianic era, inscribed at the United Nations building in New York. Hebrews 12:22's 'ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem' reads this pilgrimage vision as already inaugurated in the church's access to the heavenly sanctuary.
