Agur

Agur son of Jakeh is identified as the author of the wisdom collection in Proverbs 30, a chapter notable for its self-deprecating confession of ignorance and its striking numerical proverbs (Proverbs 30:1–4). He describes himself as 'weary' and lacking human wisdom, then poses a series of rhetorical questions that anticipate the divine interrogation of Job. The numerical sayings that follow—'Three things are too wonderful for me, four I do not understand'—are masterpieces of Hebrew observation about the natural and human world. Agur's identity is uncertain; some interpreters take his name as a literary pseudonym or a title meaning 'the gatherer.'
