Ben, a Levite, was appointed as one of the gatekeepers for the ark during its transfer to Jerusalem.

Ben was a Levite appointed as one of the gatekeepers and doorkeepers for the ark of the covenant when David organized its transport to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15:18). He is listed among the second-rank musicians who served in the ceremonial procession, distinguishable from the first-rank singers by his supporting role. His brief mention preserves the communal nature of Levitical worship, in which many named individuals participated in Israel's great liturgical events.
