Old Testament

Chenaniah was a Levite leader in charge of singing and administration during David's reign.

Chenaniah was the Levitical leader in charge of the singing and music during the transfer of the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem under David (1 Chronicles 15:22, 27). He was appointed because he was skilled in music, and David gave him authority over the musical portion of the great processional liturgy. Chenaniah also appears to have had administrative responsibilities—the same name is associated with oversight of the Levites in external affairs (1 Chronicles 26:29)—making him one of the more multifaceted Levitical leaders of David's era.
