New Testament

Erastus was a companion of Paul who served as the city treasurer in Corinth.

Erastus appears in the New Testament as a co-worker of Paul mentioned in Acts 19:22, where he and Timothy are sent ahead to Macedonia. Paul also refers to him in Romans 16:23 as the 'city treasurer' of Corinth who sends his greetings, and in 2 Timothy 4:20 as someone who remained at Corinth. An inscription discovered at Corinth commemorating an Erastus who paved a public square at his own expense may refer to this same individual, making him one of the most archaeologically attested figures in the New Testament.
