Igdaliah

Divided Kingdom > · H3012
Old Testament

Igdaliah, a man of God, was associated with a chamber in the house of the Lord during the time of the prophet Jeremiah.

Igdaliah was a 'man of God' whose son Hanan had a chamber in the house of the Lord in Jerusalem during the time of the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 35:4). Jeremiah used this chamber when he tested the Rechabites' faithfulness to their ancestral vow of abstaining from wine. The designation 'man of God' for Igdaliah suggests he was recognized as a prophet or holy man in Jerusalem, lending his family's chamber a sacred association within the temple precincts.
