Ithiel

Old Testament

Ithiel, a descendant of Benjamin, was among those who settled in Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile.

Ithiel was a Benjamite, the son of Jeshaiah and father of Maaseiah, listed among the post-exilic residents who settled in Jerusalem after the return from Babylon (Nehemiah 11:7). The name Ithiel also appears in Proverbs 30:1 as one of the addressees of Agur's sayings, though whether this is the same individual or a different person of the same name is uncertain. As a Benjamite settler in Jerusalem, Ithiel the son of Jeshaiah represents the tribal continuity that characterized the post-exilic community.
