Old Testament

Laish, the father of Palti (or 'Paltiel'), to whom Saul gave his daughter Michal in marriage.

Laish was the father of Palti (or Paltiel) son of Laish, the man to whom King Saul gave his daughter Michal after David had fled from court (1 Samuel 25:44; 2 Samuel 3:15). When David later reclaimed Michal as part of his political negotiations with Abner, Paltiel son of Laish followed weeping behind her as she was taken away. The poignant detail of Paltiel's grief reveals the emotional cost of the political marriages that shaped the early monarchy. Laish himself is known only through his son's relationship with Michal.
