Maharai the Netophathite, of the clan of the Zerahites, was one of David's thirty mighty warriors and served as the commander for the tenth month in the rotation of military divisions (2 Samuel 23:28; 1 Chronicles 11:30; 27:13). His hometown of Netophah was located near Bethlehem in Judah, and the Netophathites appear among the returned exiles in Nehemiah's time. Maharai's place in the monthly military rotation indicates a regularized system of national defense under David.
