Naharai the Beerothite served as the armor-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah, the commander of David's army, and was numbered among David's thirty mighty men (2 Samuel 23:37; 1 Chronicles 11:39). An armor-bearer occupied a position of high trust, fighting alongside his commanding officer in the most dangerous circumstances. Naharai's hometown Beeroth was a Gibeonite city assigned to the tribe of Benjamin, and other Beerothites appear in David's service.
