Tibni

Divided Kingdom > · H8402
Old Testament

Tibni was a rival to Omri for the throne of Israel, leading to a divided kingdom until his death.

Tibni was a rival claimant to the throne of Israel following the assassination of King Zimri, competing with Omri for the kingship for approximately four years (1 Kings 16:21–22). The kingdom was split between supporters of the two men until Omri's faction prevailed and Tibni died, leaving Omri as sole king. His father's name was Ginath, but beyond these sparse details the biblical record preserves no further information about Tibni's background or the circumstances of his death.
