The comfort and solace that God provides in times of distress and loss. Simeon waited for 'the consolation of Israel' — the Messiah (Luke 2:25). Paul called God 'the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort' (2 Corinthians 1:3). Isaiah 40:1 opens with the double command: 'Comfort, comfort my people.' Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as the Paraclete — the Consoler who comes alongside (John 14:16-18). Psalm 94:19 testifies, 'When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.' Romans 15:4 says Scripture was written 'so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.' God's consolation sustains through the darkest valleys.
