A title affirming Jesus' unique divine relationship with the Father. At Jesus' baptism, a voice from heaven declared, 'This is my Son, whom I love' (Matthew 3:17). Peter confessed, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God' (Matthew 16:16). John's Gospel emphasizes that Jesus is God's 'one and only Son' (John 3:16) who shares the Father's nature (John 5:18, 10:30). The title implies not creation but eternal generation — the Son shares the divine essence. Romans 1:4 declares Jesus was 'appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead.' This sonship is the basis of believers' adoption (Romans 8:14-17).
