The Christian doctrine that God exists as three co-equal, co-eternal persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — yet is one God. While the word 'Trinity' does not appear in Scripture, the concept emerges from passages like Matthew 28:19, where Jesus commands baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and 2 Corinthians 13:14, which offers a trinitarian blessing. The baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:16-17) shows all three persons active simultaneously. Church councils at Nicaea (325 AD) and Constantinople (381 AD) formulated the doctrine against various heresies.
