Trumpets accompanied the fall of Jericho (Joshua 6:4-20). The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) was proclaimed with trumpet blasts (Leviticus 23:24). Joel 2:1 commands, 'Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill!' First Corinthians 15:52 prophesies, 'The trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable.' First Thessalonians 4:16 describes the Lord's return 'with the trumpet call of God.' Trumpets announce God's presence, call to attention, and herald decisive divine action.
