The verb 'stand' (amad) suggests stable, authoritative presence rather than temporary exercise of power — the shepherd-king who endures. The feeding (ra'ah, shepherding) language connects this ruler to David the shepherd-king, to Ezekiel 34's promised shepherd-prince, and to John 10's Good Shepherd — a canonical shepherd-Christology tradition. Matthew 2:6 quotes Micah 5:2 in response to Herod's inquiry about the birthplace of the Messiah, but the present verse's 'great to the ends of the earth' anticipates the risen Christ's commission in Matthew 28:18-20.
