Amram

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Levi · H6019G
Old Testament

Amram was the father of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, and a member of the tribe of Levi.

Amram son of Kohath was a Levite who married his father's sister Jochebed and fathered Aaron, Moses, and Miriam—three of the most pivotal figures in Israel's foundational narrative (Exodus 6:18–20; Numbers 26:59). He lived 137 years according to Exodus 6:20, placing him in the period of Egyptian slavery. The Amramites were one of the four Kohathite clans, and their descendants held special responsibility in transporting the most sacred objects of the tabernacle (Numbers 4:4–15). That three foundational leaders—prophet, priest, and prophetess—came from a single family underscores God's sovereign election of particular households for extraordinary service.
