Arad was a Benjamite, one of the sons of Beriah.
Arad was a Benjaminite, listed as a son of Beriah in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 8:15. He belongs to a sub-group of Benjaminites who settled in Aijalon and drove out the inhabitants of Gath. The Benjaminite genealogy in 1 Chronicles 8 is particularly concerned with the clans connected to Jerusalem and the surrounding territory. A different Arad appears as a Canaanite city-king in the Negev who attacked the Israelites at Hormah (Numbers 21:1–3; Judges 1:16–17); that Arad is a place rather than a person. The Benjaminite Arad of Chronicles is otherwise unknown outside this genealogical list.
