Old Testament

Eliakim was the palace administrator under King Hezekiah during the Assyrian invasion.

Eliakim son of Hilkiah was the palace administrator under King Hezekiah during the crisis of the Assyrian invasion under Sennacherib (2 Kings 18:18; Isaiah 36–37). He served as one of the delegation sent to negotiate with the Assyrian field commander and subsequently carried news of the Assyrian threats to Isaiah the prophet. Isaiah 22:20–25 contains an oracle installing Eliakim as steward over David's house, using the imagery of a peg driven into a firm place—language that the New Testament applies typologically to the Messiah (Revelation 3:7).
