Hadad

United Kingdom Edom · H1908I
Old Testament

Hadad, an Edomite prince, fled to Egypt and later became an adversary to King Solomon.

Hadad was an Edomite prince who escaped to Egypt as a child when Joab killed the male population of Edom during David's campaign there (1 Kings 11:14–22). He was given refuge at Pharaoh's court, married the sister of Pharaoh's wife, and raised his son Genubath among Pharaoh's children. After David and Joab died, Hadad returned to Edom and became an adversary against Solomon, one of three such opponents God raised up against the king who had drifted into apostasy.
