Lotan

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Edom · H3877
Old Testament

Lotan, a son of Seir the Horite and a chief of Edom.

Lotan son of Seir the Horite was one of the chiefs of the Horite people who inhabited the region of Seir before the Edomites dispossessed them (Genesis 36:20, 22, 29; 1 Chronicles 1:38–39). His sons were Hori and Homam, and his sister was Timna—who became the concubine of Eliphaz son of Esau and mother of Amalek. The Horites are associated with the indigenous cave-dwelling inhabitants of the Seir highlands, and Lotan's name heads the list of Horite chiefs who preceded the Edomite kingdom.
