Mattaniah, a son of Heman, was a musician in King David's court.
Mattaniah son of Heman was a Levite musician appointed by King David as one of the twenty-four leaders of sacred song for the temple (1 Chronicles 25:4, 16). His division—the ninth—was assigned by lot for the rotation of temple worship. Heman's fourteen sons who led musical divisions embody the prophetic dimension of temple song. The name Mattaniah was common in the post-exilic period and is shared by several other individuals in Ezra-Nehemiah.
