New Covenant
The covenant prophesied by Jeremiah and inaugurated by Jesus, surpassing and fulfilling the old Mosaic covenant. Jeremiah 31:31-34 promised: 'I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.' At the Last Supper, Jesus declared, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you' (Luke 22:20). Hebrews 8-10 extensively contrasts the old and new covenants, concluding that 'by calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete' (8:13). The new covenant provides internal transformation, direct knowledge of God, complete forgiveness, and the indwelling Holy Spirit.
