Study Note

Nebuchadnezzar's confession — 'your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets' — is not yet a monotheistic conversion but a henotheistic acknowledgment that Daniel's God surpasses all rivals. The pagan king's words ironically fulfill the prophetic pattern of Isaiah 45, where God declares that even foreign rulers will acknowledge his sovereignty. The scene illustrates the book of Daniel's central thesis: that true wisdom (revealed, not achieved) belongs to the God of Israel, and that worldly power must ultimately bow before divine knowledge. The verse has been read in Christian tradition as a prefiguration of the nations' eschatological submission to the God of the Bible.
