Peter's unnamed wife, whose mother Jesus healed of a fever.
Peter's wife, unnamed in the New Testament, is attested by the healing of her mother (Peter's mother-in-law) from a fever by Jesus, recorded in Matthew 8:14–15, Mark 1:30–31, and Luke 4:38–39. Paul alludes to her existence when arguing for the right of apostles to travel with a believing wife, noting that Cephas (Peter) exercised this right (1 Corinthians 9:5). Church tradition and some patristic sources associate her with the name Perpetua, though this is not from the canonical text.
