Old Testament

Ahilud was the father of Jehoshaphat, David's recorder, and Baana, one of Solomon's twelve district governors.

Ahilud was the father of two prominent officials in David's and Solomon's administration: Jehoshaphat, the recorder (annalist) under David and Solomon (2 Samuel 8:16; 1 Kings 4:3), and Baana, the district governor of Taanach and Megiddo under Solomon (1 Kings 4:12). His sons' high administrative positions indicate that Ahilud came from a family well-connected to the royal court of the united monarchy. The role of recorder was one of the most important in the ancient Near Eastern administrative system, responsible for maintaining the official chronicle and memory of the king's reign.
