Arpachshad, son of Shem, was born two years after the flood and was an ancestor of Abraham (Gen.10.22,24; 11:10-13; 1Ch.1.17-18,24; Luke 3:36).
Arpachshad was the son of Shem, born two years after the flood, and the ancestor of the Semitic line through whom Abraham descended (Genesis 10:22–24; 11:10–13). His descendants Shelah, Eber, Peleg, and Reu carry the genealogy from the flood to the time of Abraham, a period of decreasing lifespans that marks the transition from the antediluvian world to the post-flood era. Arpachshad is also listed in the genealogy of Jesus through Luke 3:36. The name's etymology is uncertain; some scholars associate it with the Chaldeans (Arphaxad = 'border of the Chaldeans'), though this derivation is disputed.
