Assir

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Levi · H0617H
Old Testament

Assir was a Levite ancestor of Samuel the prophet (1Ch.6.23, 37).

Assir was a Levite of the Kohathite clan, son of Ebiasaph (or Abiasaph) and an ancestor of Samuel the prophet through the line of Elkanah (1 Chronicles 6:23, 37). The Kohathites held the most sacred duties in the tabernacle's transport—carrying the ark, the table, the lampstand, and the altar—and their genealogy is traced in detail because of the importance of verifying priestly and Levitical lineages. Samuel's Kohathite ancestry, traced through Assir, establishes his legitimate Levitical credentials despite his unusual dedication to the sanctuary from infancy (1 Samuel 1:24–28).
