Birzaith appears in 1 Chronicles 7:31 as a son (or possibly a town founded by) Malchiel, a descendant of Asher through Beriah. In biblical genealogical texts, it is common for town names to be recorded as personal names of founders or eponymous ancestors. Birzaith's mention preserves the memory of Asherite settlement in this region during the period of the early tribal territories in the land of Canaan.
